Year 3

In Year 3 we are creative, ambitious and enthusiastic about our learning. As the children enter Key Stage 2, we want them to develop their independence as learners. We encourage them to ask questions and develop their enquiry skills to deepen their understanding of the topics and mastery of the key skills we cover, and to make links between them.

Homework is set on Friday afternoon, to be handed in on Monday morning. The children are expected to read a book or access Bug Club every day and discuss their reading at home to reinforce their understanding and enhance their enjoyment. They should have their reading record signed by an adult at home daily.

On PE days, the children should come to school in their uniform. They must bring school PE kit - dark shorts/jogging bottoms, a white t-shirt and trainers, to be worn with their school jumper.

This year, we will be covering the following topics:

  • ‘Temples, Tombs and Treasures’ - all about Ancient Egypt;
  • ‘Explorers and Adventurers’ - in which we will learn all about famous explorers, the places they visited and their contributions to the modern world;
  • ‘Do you live around here?’ - focusing on our local area, its geography and history;
  • ‘Footprints from the past’ - all about dinosaurs;
  • ‘Active Planet’ - covering volcanoes, earthquakes and other natural phenomena; and
  • ‘Paintings, Pictures and Photographs’ - in which we will explore different types of art and develop our own art skills.
