Year 3

As the children enter Key Stage 2, we want them to develop their independence as learners. We encourage them to ask questions and develop their enquiry skills to deepen their understanding of the topics and mastery of the key skills we cover, and to make links between them.

IPC topics

This term we will be learning about the Ancient Egyptians through the topic ’Temples, Tombs and Treasures’. The people who helped create the first great civilisations were not unlike you and me. Today we can learn a lot about these people and their way of life through the things they left behind – from everyday objects to magnificent and rare treasures. As part of the topic we will be reading ‘The story of Tutankhamun’ by Patricia Cleveland-Peck. As part of our entry point the children will become archaeologists and ‘dig’ for ancient ruins.

Our IPC topics for this year are:

Temples, Tombs and Treasures - All about Ancient Egypt.

Explorers and Adventurers - In which we will learn all about famous explorers, the places they visited and their contributions to the modern world.

Do you live around here? - Focusing on our local area, its geography and history.

Footprints from the past - All about dinosaurs.

Active Planet - Covering volcanoes, earthquakes and other natural phenomena.

Paintings, Pictures and Photographs - In which we will explore different types of art and develop our own art skills.
