Spanish at Jubilee

Subject leader: Cheryl Couldwell

We have chosen to learn Spanish as our Modern Foreign Language at Jubilee.

All Key Stage 2 classes spend half an hour a week learning how to have basic conversations in Spanish, and learning about the cultures and traditions in different Spanish-speaking countries.

At Jubilee we believe that learning a language is important as it helps our children to understand their place within a global society. Children are able to learn about the lives of other children around the world. We are keen to particularly keen to celebrate Spanish as we have such a large community of Spanish-speaking children at our school.

Some of the topics covered in Spanish are:

  • Numbers
  • Colours
  • Introductions and greetings
  • Our family
  • Likes and dislikes
  • Describing our appearance and personality
  • Hobbies and interests

Each term we will learn about a different festival or holiday in a Spanish-speaking country – for example this term we have been learning about the Dia de los muertos celebrations in Mexico!

Our Spanish work will be supported by the online scheme at https://www.speekee.com/ Have a look at their website if you would like to find out more about it.

If you would like to find out more about the Spanish curriculum at Jubilee, please email admin@jubilee.lambeth.sch.uk and write F.O.A Cheryl Couldwell and they will respond to the enquiry.
